A Legacy of Success
In 1979, Bill Lee had a vision about how a real estate organization should be run. His first focus was not on the organization, but on the customers served by it—how could their best interests be best served? The answer was simple enough. What if, he reasoned, a local division of a national real estate company was managed and run by its owner? From that notion, a dynamic new business model was born.
His company, Lee & Associates, turned real estate brokers into company owners or "shareholders." Their vested interest in the company created a sense of shared responsibility and cooperation throughout the organization. And that, in turn, encouraged a new mindset—an orientation toward building long-term client relationships and customer-driven business solutions.
To say the least, this out-of-the-box notion caught on. Last year, the Lee & Associates group of companies successfully completed transactions with a total value of nearly $7 billion. Not only has Bill Lee’s profit-sharing concept proven enormously successful, but it has fueled the explosive growth of group offices throughout the West and now moving East, all committed to customer service and ethical practices. Today, Lee & Associates is the fourth largest commercial real estate sales organization in the country.
