The USTR released a proposed list of Chinese goods last week, which according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supplychaindive.com\/news\/US-tariffs-300b-proposed-list\/554734\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SupplyChainDive<\/a> represents nearly every remaining untaxed good imported from China.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Items on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/6002298-May-2019-Proposed-Modification.html#document\/p2\">137 page list<\/a> could be subject to duties of up to 25% and includes raw materials and products that could impact dozens of industries, further impacting just about every US Business and direct consumer is some way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-style: normal;font-weight: normal;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none;text-decoration: none;float: none\">What will the trickle down affect of these tariff\u2019s do to our existing supply chain?\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: normal;font-weight: normal;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none;text-decoration: none;float: none\">How much reshoring might we expect to see from this policy?<\/span> Tariffs on goods traded between the US and China have already increased in several stages since early 2018<span style=\"font-style: normal;font-weight: normal;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none;text-decoration: none;float: none\">, and some experts say many common goods are expected to become a lot more expensive by summer. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">&#8220;The supply chain will try to absorb as much of the blow as they can, then they will move those costs forward to consumers,&#8221; said David French, senior vice president of government relations at the National Retail Federation, as cited on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/amp\/s\/www.cnbc.com\/amp\/2019\/05\/14\/what-consumers-should-buy-now-as-the-trade-war-heats-up.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNBC<\/a>. In preparation, retailers are stocking up on merchandise.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: left;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none;text-decoration: none;float: none\">The earliest date the tariffs can take effect is June 24, as the USTR will hold a public hearing on June 17 to seek public comments. Comments can be submitted up to seven days after the hearing.
