Tacoma Comedy Club Opens 2nd Location, Plans Relocation for Downtown Location
The locally owned club joins other new businesses opening in Tacoma’s CBD and has selected the home of its new, second location.
June 1, 2023 (Tacoma, WA) – Lee & Associates Commercial Real Estate Services is pleased to have brokered two leases for the Tacoma Comedy Club. The Club will move and expand into new space at 936 Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma, plus will open a new, second location along Tacoma’s 6th Avenue.
The locally owned entertainment provider opened their current Market Street location in 2010. In their new space at 936 Pacific Avenue, the venue will fill 7,500 SF and will accommodate seating for up to 300 people. They join several other businesses soon opening, or recently opened, along the Pacific Avenue corridor. Within the block, Campfire Coffee recently leased space at 11th and Pacific, which sits opposite on Pacific Avenue from The Astor apartment tower and its ground floor matcha tea café, Jin Jin Matcha.
Lee & Associates Principal John Bauder, an office broker working with the comedy club and the building owner on the transaction, believes that this onset of new retail activity is indicative of how Tacoma is evolving. “These locally owned lifestyle retail shops are reactivating the downtown core. Their presence, combined with the ongoing momentum of several multifamily conversions and reinvigorization of office buildings, is transforming the downtown experience. With the impending opening of the light rail extension, we anticipate a level of activation that we haven’t seen in quite some time.”
Meanwhile, the locally owned entertainment provider has also selected its forthcoming second location. The Sixth Ave District will serve as home to the smaller-sized venue, which will still bring national headliner acts, but with an approachable vibe. Local retail market expert, Kyle Prosser, who also brokered these transactions, credits the City and the people of Tacoma for helping these businesses thrive. “Nearly all of these businesses going in along Pacific Avenue are locally owned, and opening their second, maybe third location. It makes sense that Tacoma is getting national attention for how it prioritizes bringing in new businesses. There’s a cocktail of factors that will determine if a shop is successful, but foundationally, Tacoma shows up for its businesses.”
The City of Tacoma was recently featured in a report by the National League of Cities (NLC) which highlighted the City’s efforts in building a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem, and its use of technology to prioritize business recruitment. The report can be found on the NLC website at nlc.org.
