Description
Located in the heart of Downtown Sanford, the former Masonic Temple was a center of the community for over 50 years. Constructed in 1924, the building was home to the Sanford Masonic Lodge 151 until the 1980s.
The ground level floor was originally occupied by Cole’s Pharmacy and featured a vintage soda bar. Next door was the Temple Theatre which showcased vaudeville and burlesque road shows in the 1930’s. Lodge meetings were held on the upper floors.
While the building’s interior has undergone renovations necessary for modern life, unique architectural details have been preserved. The top floors are suitable for office or apartments. The first floor has most recently been used for street level retail. The basement floor is home to Nunnery’s Shoes, but also has space that would be ideal for a “speakeasy” style bar that would be in keeping with this prohibition era building!
